Dates used:  Mid-1960's?
Inside of helmet:  Foam padding
Manufacturer: Sport Product
Logo:  real sticker
Thoughts:  Just a very early version
of the Cardinals helmet with a smaller
logo and a different variation.

    ?

Does this helmet exist and it just eludes me?  Anything is possible considering that this helmet existed in 1963 (this is a 1964 Topps card).

Dates used:  Mid-1960's, maybe 1964?
Inside of helmet:  Foam padding
Manufacturer: Sport Product
Logo:  real sticker
Thoughts:  Good luck finding this
one.  I thought it had to be a mistake
until I found a picture of Curt Flood in
a hat that looked like this.  I'm still
trying to figure out the years.  This is
by far one of my best finds.

Dates used:  ????
Inside of helmet:  A leather strap held on by rivets
Manufacturer: None listed
Logo:  real sticker
Thoughts:  Just a really bizarre helmet.  I haven't decided yet if the strap inside is manufactured or rigged by somebody, but hey that sticker is different and that means this helmet is unique.

Dates used:  ????
Inside of helmet:  White Adjustrap
Manufacturer: U.S. Cap Company
Logo:  screen printed
Thoughts:  One of the "bizarre"
helmets that is out there.  There are
four air holes on the top, not two, and
the Adjustrap is white.  If you look
closely, the bill of these helmets is
also much wider.  On this particular
helmet, the "STL" does not have a
black outline around it.  From what I
can tell the Cardinals have never had
a hat or helmet like this.

Dates used: 1965 to 1990?
Inside of helmet:  Adjustrap
Manufacturer:  Sports Product Corp,
A Subsidiary of Laich
Logo:  screen printed
Thoughts:  I'm not for sure when the
Cardinals switched the looks of their
logo.  You can see the difference by
comparing this helmet with the one
below.

Dates used: 1965 to 1990?
Inside of helmet:  Adjustrap
Manufacturer:  Sports Product Corp,
A Subsidiary of Laich
Logo:  sticker
Thoughts:  Same as above, except this helmet is older due to having foam padding and a sticker for the logo.

Dates used: 1991 to present?
Inside of helmet:  Adjustrap
Manufacturer:  Sports Product Corp,
A Subsidiary of Laich
Logo:  screen printed
Thoughts:  I'm not for sure when the
Cardinals switched to this logo.  I
think it was in 1998.

Dates used: 1991 to present?
Inside of helmet:  Adjustrap
Manufacturer:  Sports Product Corp,
A Subsidiary of Laich
Logo:  screen printed
Thoughts:  I believe the Cardinals
switched back to this in 1991.  They
use to wear hats and helmets like this
from 1956 to 1964 except the logo
would have had fatter letters like the
first helmet on this page.

Dates used: never used
Inside of helmet:  Adjustrap
Manufacturer:  Sports Product Corp,
A Subsidiary of Laich
Logo:  screen printed
Thoughts:  This is just a stadium
giveaway.  The Cardinals wear this as
a regular cap, but not a helmet.  I recently was informed that this helmet was worn by the ball boys in foul territory until 2006, but now they wear the road helmets.

Dates used: never used
Inside of helmet:  Adjustrap
Manufacturer:  Sports Product Corp,
A Subsidiary of Laich
Logo:  screen printed
Thoughts:  Another helmet that was
just a promotional item.  The only
thing I'm not for sure of here is if this
is a St. Louis Cardinals helmet or
possibly a minor league team, or even
a Louisville Cardinals helmet.

Dates used: never used
Inside of helmet:  Adjustrap
Manufacturer:  Sports Product Corp,
A Subsidiary of Laich
Logo:  screen printed
Thoughts:  Another promotional
giveaway.

Dates used:  1953 - 55
Inside of helmet:  Adjustrap
Manufacturer:  Fotoball
Logo:  screen printed
Thoughts:  The Cardinals wore a hat
like this from 1953-55, but batting
helmets didn't became mandatory in
the National League until 1955.  This
helmet was manufactured by Fotoball
as a throwback helmet in 2004.

Dates used:  Never
Inside of helmet:  foam padding
Manufacturer:  Sports Product Corp.
Logo:  cloth sticker
Thoughts:  I just thought this was an interesting helmet because somebody actually used a cloth sticker.
